Experts warn about a new trend for accelerated hair growth – Here’s what you should do

Thanks to social media, you can discover numerous useful pieces of information that can simplify your everyday life. However, before you decide to try out some of the tips and trends, it’s advisable to educate yourself further.

One such trend on social media is the rosemary oil treatment. This trend promising long and lush hair has emerged on TikTok. Many TikTok users recommend rosemary oil for speeding up hair growth and claim that it has helped with scalp irritation, dandruff, and reduced hair loss.

However, hairstylists and dermatologists caution against applying rosemary oil directly to your hair, especially during hot summer days, as it could lead to unwanted side effects.

They emphasize that rosemary oil does indeed stimulate hair growth, but it should be used with caution. The oil needs to be diluted before application and applied directly to the scalp or areas where your hair is thinning.

This enhances the so-called oxygenation of hair follicles, increasing the oil’s effectiveness. Afterward, it’s necessary to leave the oil on for at least half an hour.

However, due to its effects, many people choose to apply the oil all over their hair and keep it on throughout the day, even when outdoors. Nevertheless, this shouldn’t be done without proper protection.

Jason Goldberg, the director of the beauty treatment booking app SpaSeekers.com, points out that rosemary oil contains an acid known for treating damaged nerves and tissues and improving blood circulation.

“As temperatures are high, it’s important to be aware that applying any oil to the skin will attract harmful UV rays and increase the risk of sun damage – which means that your rosemary oil treatment could do more harm than good if you’re sitting outside in the sun,” Goldberg advised.

The scalp is particularly sensitive, and damage could lead to redness and pain. However, it’s not necessary to completely avoid this trend; just exercise caution when you’re outdoors. If you’re outside, wearing a hat or scarf is recommended to protect your scalp.
