Beauty trends from Paris Fashion Week bringing shine and gothic vibes

Paris Fashion Week is not just an opportunity to dive into a new season of fantastic clothing, footwear, and accessories but also to discover the beauty trends that await us in the coming months.

The beauty trends for the upcoming spring/summer are already taking shape, characterized by bold choices from lips to eyes and even hair. Lips, in shades of red or deep burgundy, are worn in dark hues, even in warmer months, while eyes feature an intense ultra-black smokey look. On the other hand, an abundance of glitter and feathers adorning the hair brings a sense of joy, creativity, and lightness – all synonymous with summer.

At the Saint Laurent show, bold red lips seen on the models perfectly align with the stereotypical image of Parisian women, but in reality, they pay homage to the most determined women in history. Shimmering confetti is a joyful way to wrap up the metallic lip trend seen at the Marni show, while Dior took a completely opposite approach with captivating “witchy lips” in the deepest shades of the season.

Here’s a quick overview of the beauty trends that caught our attention during this Paris Fashion Week.

Paris Fashion Week – Beauty trends for spring/summer 2024

Marni – Glittering lips

Festive, fun, and colorful, the glitter-covered and gilded lips on the Marni runway reflect the metallic floral motifs present on many dresses in the collection. Makeup artist Yadim Carranza applied crystals that reflected light in shades of purple, pink, and gold on the lips, following the collection’s theme of collage fragments.

Carranza and his team envisioned that the base lip color would almost perfectly match the sparkling confetti applied over the lips, but they allowed a small degree of tonal contrast, making the shine appear even brighter, illuminated by chandeliers lining the runway.

Saint Laurent – The return of red lipstick

There’s a reason why red lipstick has been popular since ancient times – is there a color so attractive, so mesmerizing? A significant part of designer Anthony Vaccarello’s vision for this summer collection revolved around inspirational women like Amelie Earhart who broke boundaries in male-dominated fields without compromising their own identity.

This was directly reflected on the runway with red lipstick, which appeared as a traditionally feminine vision for Vaccarello’s reinterpretation of classic men’s clothing.

Dior – Gothic beauty

“Witchy lips” in Dior’s beauty vision are far from heavy, black lipsticks for Halloween or even deep, lavish shades associated with glamorous gothic aesthetics. Instead, Dior’s leading makeup artist, Peter Philips, used black eyeliner on the lips to create something much more intriguing.

“This look is a reflection of what the creative director, Maria Grazia Chiuri, wanted to express with this collection, about women being perceived as witches in a male-dominated world,” he explained backstage, adding that there is a gothic element in the makeup.

Philips applied makeup only to the inner part of the models’ lips, making it look like the dark, inner entity is breaking through. Horror-inspired beauty in the world of fashion is undeniably always thrilling!

Courrèges – Lower lash line eyeliner

At the Courrèges show, we saw a new way to wear eyeliner, but this look still has a slight retro feel, reminiscent of the makeup from the ’60s. Makeup artist Diane Kendal demonstrated on her Instagram how she drew a thick line of eyeliner on the lower lash line while keeping the lashes and eyelids neutral to make this bold move stand out even more.
