Finding the motivation and energy to exercise can be a challenge. You might have tried it all – pre-workout smoothies, protein powder blends, and supplements.
However, according to Dr. Michael Mosley, the key to priming your body before hitting the gym is something you probably already consume on a daily basis: coffee.
We’re accustomed to sipping this powerful beverage to shake off sleepiness first thing in the morning. As it turns out, your morning brew has other purposes you might not have been aware of.
“I’m about to do something that’s supposed to increase my alertness, improve my mood, and even enhance my morning workout,” Mosley told his listeners in an episode of his BBC podcast, “Just One Thing,” before taking a sip of coffee.
Not only will that cup kickstart your brain, but it will also rev up your body.
“Surprisingly, drinking coffee not only mentally revives us, but it’s been shown to enhance our performance in various other ways,” he adds.
This includes boosting the amount of fat you burn during exercise and improving endurance, so you can keep going.
