“If you have water trapped in your ears, the worst thing you can do is to insert your finger or cotton swab to try to remove it and dry your ear. This may worsen the situation, introduce bacteria, and push the water deeper into the ear. Instead, here’s a handy doctor-approved trick you can try.
According to experts from the Mayo Clinic, Dr. Jesse Bracamontea, a family medicine physician, and Dr. Nicholas Deep, an ear, nose, and throat specialist, all you need is a towel, medical alcohol, and white vinegar.
Here’s what they recommend doing to get rid of water from your ear:
- Use a towel to dry the area around your ear.
- Put a mixture of alcohol and white vinegar into your ear.
According to Dr. Bracamontea, this mixture can help the water evaporate and prevent the growth of bacteria or fungi. Dr. Deep added that this procedure can alter the pH of the ear canal, facilitating the evaporation process.
“Keep in mind that this method should be avoided if there is a risk of a perforated eardrum, ear tubes, or severe infection,” he added.”
