September is the new January. Do you feel it’s time for some fresh starts?
While January 1st often gives us the feeling of entering a new and different year, it seems to me that this autumnal sense of new beginnings holds even more power.
What do you feel is the ideal time for new beginnings – the first days of the calendar year or the return from a vacation into early September, which reminds us all of a new school year?
Although every January 1st feels like the start of a new and different year, a fresh energy where we can begin important things on a clean slate, I believe this autumnal sense of new beginnings holds even more power.
Perhaps it’s because it’s not tied to a specific date (which the entire world has agreed upon), but somehow comes naturally and spontaneously. Not only do we carry the subconscious feeling from childhood that September marks a new step (a new grade), but we’re simply full of enthusiasm and inspiration right now.
Over the summer, we rested and broke free from our routines. Even those who didn’t go anywhere outside their city (or village) enjoyed the tranquility of August, when the streets are empty, and everything feels somehow different.
We rested, took a step back, allowed ourselves to be free for a while and listen to ourselves. During those vacations, we became different people. We remembered that life can be different from the usual. And we were able to look at our regular life from a distance, from which we see it better. So, it naturally became clear to us what we want to keep in our lives and what we want to replace with something better, right?
Different energy
Additionally, during our vacation, we recharged our energy, filled our batteries with sunlight, relaxation, socializing, and beautiful landscapes. So, we’re returning to the “new school year” with the energy to dive into action – to create something different or finally do what we’ve been postponing for a long time.
Therefore, it’s crucial to use this energy. Use that clarity of insight into your own life that you saw so clearly from a distance. This clarity has become even stronger on the first day back from vacation. Remember, in those first days back from a break, what did you eagerly embrace again, and what did you say to yourself, “I won’t and can’t do this anymore”?
For instance, a small company has been coming to our house to tidy up our garden in the spring and fall for years. However, this spring, we couldn’t agree on the schedule – partly due to the rain, but mostly because the owner was overwhelmed with work and kept postponing our appointments. So, we went on vacation, and the garden remained untended. My first contact with our home was entering the “wild” garden, and I immediately thought, “This can’t go on like this; I’m changing the gardener!” And that’s exactly what I did. I also dove into some small home repairs that were on hold all summer but suddenly bothered me. I saw clearly in which parts of our home I want to create a different energy.
I believe you’ve had a similar experience when you stepped out of your flip-flops back into the shoes of your usual life. You immediately felt if there were pebbles inside those shoes that you had become accustomed to but now clearly felt were uncomfortable. Maybe it’s a pebble in a relationship, maybe at work, or perhaps in your home (just like my pebbles).
Use the energy you’ve collected over the summer to remove those pebbles so that you can feel comfortable and at ease in your home, work, and life. Be filled with joy because something new and different, something you’ve created yourself, lies ahead.
And maybe you’ll even decide to step into some entirely different shoes! The right time for that is right now.
