Recent research highlights that individuals with a fulfilling sex life are likely to be more content at work and more engaged in their tasks compared to those experiencing difficulties in their sexual lives. It’s well-documented that sex triggers the release of dopamine, a neurotransmitter that regulates the brain’s reward center and feelings of pleasure. Additionally, it stimulates the release of oxytocin, known as the “love hormone,” playing a role in sexual arousal and interpersonal bonding. When these factors combine, it’s no surprise that sex can uplift one’s mood and psychological state.
Enhanced Mood
The study, published in the Journal of Management, aimed to uncover how sex influences behavior and mood in the workplace. It involved 159 employed married individuals who filled out questionnaires twice daily for 14 days. They answered questions about their sexual activity at home, how they felt after sex, and how their day at work was following sexual activity. Results showed that individuals felt better in the mornings after having sex compared to mornings without sexual activity. Participants who reported feeling in better spirits the morning after sex also mentioned being more satisfied at work that day and more inclined to engage in work-related tasks.
These findings remained consistent even after factoring in two other mood-affecting elements—satisfaction in marriage and quality of sleep. Keith Leavitt, one of the study’s authors and a professor at Oregon State University, mentioned that their discoveries serve as a reminder that sex contributes to social, emotional, and physical well-being, and therefore, it should be a priority for us.
